Lickey Hills - WW sites - Back Street Birmingham

Today I decided to take a walk on the Lickey Hills to find the WW2 historic sites that are shown by the red poppy near the Visitors Centre and Narborough’s Field on the Park Map.
I went to the WW2 sites first. They are quite difficult to find unless you follow the track, or have GPS coordinates (given in directions)

Machine gun site

The first site I came to was a crescent-shaped ditch, the site of a Vickers Machine Gun post. The machine guns were to help protect the listening post a bit further on.

Listening Post

After about 20 metres there is a doughnut shaped ditch that was the location of a WW2 listening post.

Site of Search Lights

A bit further on again is where some search lights were based

Butts

Near the visitor Centre, on the other side of the road, are the remains of a WW1 Proof Range where Howitzer shells were tested.
The butts, where the shells were fired into, still stand.

Magazine

This image shows all that remains of the magazine, the place where the explosives were stored.

Directions
The Lickey Hills can be reached by taking a bus to Rednal or a train to Barnt Green.
The poppies can be seen on the map.
I will add GPS and What Three Words coordinates soon (I did have them on my phone but between going on the walk and writing this post the phone was stolen)
